After the beads are swept away at Mardi Gras and the last note's left hanging in the air at Jazz Fest, New Orleans is still America's most unique city.
An Old World charm infuses every leisurely movement toward a more progressive future. The preservation of traditions, music, cuisine, and beautiful architecture is unrivaled, and much of this is reflected in the homes and neighborhoods of the Crescent City.

The Fun Never Ends

In New Orleans, you can sail on Lake Pontchartrain, visit the Aquarium of the Americas and the Audubon Zoo, take a ride on a paddlewheeler up the Mississippi River, dine at some of the finest restaurants in the nation, cheer on the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome, and tour plantation homes. Historic cemeteries are among our most visited tourist attractions with their beautifully decorated crypts and markers, attesting to the number of famous and infamous local characters at final rest.

New Orleans is everything you've always heard and more. The French Quarter covers 70 blocks of music clubs, fabulous food, and a wide range of shops housed in 18th and 19th architecture. New Orleans' most famous event is, of course, Mardi Gras. The elaborate parades, colorful costuming and accompanying celebrations are without question the most engaging "street party" in the country.

Mardi Gras is only the beginning. All year long the New Orleans area hosts festivals and celebrations. One of the most famous is the New Orleans Jazz Fest, held each spring.

Making New Orleans Home

New Orleans isn't just a vacation destination, it's a great place to live. Our parishes (the Louisiana name for counties) contain unusual housing opportunities. You can live in a variety of neighborhoods ranging from the glamorous on historic St. Charles Avenue (with palatial southern mansions), to the peaceful, wooded suburbs of the Northshore or the Westbank. Some of the oldest apartments in the U.S. are at the Pontalba in the French Quarter. Quaint, old New Orleans neighborhood surroundings can still be found in Mid-City, St. Bernard, Uptown, or Lakeview. Regardless of your taste in homes, a variety lets you choose from a selection of neighborhoods and architecture.
