New Orleans' most famous event is, of course, Mardi Gras. The elaborate parades, colorful costuming and accompanying celebrations are without question the most engaging "street party" in the country. Mardi Gras is only the beginning. All year long the New Orleans area hosts festivals and celebrations. One of the most famous is the New Orleans Jazz Fest, held each spring.
